More than ever before, email marketing is getting its time to shine! Alyssa Dulin, manager of creator growth at ConvertKit, joins us to discuss how to get your emails to land in your subscribers’ inboxes and not in the spam folder. Alyssa loves the excitement of getting emails to land in the inbox which means more money for your business from the boost of your email open rates.
Email marketing is crucial in business! If you haven’t made a dollar in email marketing, it’s hard to wrap your head around how sending emails can make you money, but it’s more important now than ever before. In an ever changing social media algorithm game, having the ability to contact your audience at any given time is a necessity.
There are so many ways you can use your email list. Think of your email list as a way to serve your audience. You can customize your messages to your audience with the ease of a click. When a customer signs up for your email they have the ability to choose what content they want to hear more about. This is beneficial for you as you write and deliver your content.
Deliverability is based on your audience’s engagement. The best positive practices for your email marketing are when customers open, click, and reply. This will help to ensure you are staying in your clients inbox. Recently Gmail and Yahoo have cracked down on their requirements to keep spam emails out of our inboxes. While this is great for consumers, it can be tricky for us business owners.
Choose an email provider that has a deliverability support team. The support team will give you guidance to help your emails land in your customers’ inboxes. This is simply an easy google search about your chosen platform. Google can provide information about their platform’s deliverability. This is the most important thing when shopping for an email provider for your business.
Open rate percentages for emails are trending right now. Don’t take this at face value however, because some inbox providers automatically mark the email as opened when the email was received, so this can skew the number. Don’t fret over the open rate, but make yourself aware of the percentage.
Audit your email list to ensure everyone has opted in to be on your email list! You don’t want a random email list you’ve had for years or a list that has been used for a giveaway with inactive subscribers. People who don’t want to be on your email list are more likely to unsubscribe or mark your email as spam. You do not want a client or customer to mark your email as spam. Getting marked as spam is incredibly impactful to your list. Having just one click for spam will start to send your email to the spam folders for others. So, ensure you have an up to date email marketing list.

Encouraging your audience to reply to your email is one of the best ways to ensure deliverability! You can get creative with how you engage your audience.
Some helpful tips when writing your emails:
-Include some responses in a follow up email, or reply back to a few people.
-Don’t hide your click links in your content.
-Make the button stand out so people will click on it.
-Using emoji’s does not hurt your email subject line.
Every link you put in your email has a reputation. Link shorteners are often bounced into your spam folder. Be careful about the links you do include. Use only reputable platforms or domains in your links.
Your sender reputation is also a key to email marketing. Your domain that you use to send your email is also important when it comes to email marketing. If possible, use an A/B test run for a few emails to see what your audience prefers, and opens more!
Email marketing has been around forever, but now is the time to capitalize on its capability. Using a reputable domain with a deliverability support team can help to change your email marketing all around. Now is the time to step into email marketing, and ConvertKit can help.
