If you’ve ever asked yourself, “how can I expand my niche”, today’s LIVE coaching call episode is for you.
In today’s live coaching session on the Book More Clients Photography Podcast with Amber Carl, we discuss the option of expanding her niche from Boudoir to adding wedding photography.
Amber is boudoir photographer, owner & operator of Boudoir by Amber Carl. She is also a From Broke to Booked Blueprint student & member of the BMC Marketing Academy.
I’ve niched down to boudoir, obviously, but I still LOVE weddings & families. When is it okay to start incorporating those types of sessions back in?
Brooke: There are a couple of routes I want to take with this question.
Number 1: I want to address that oftentimes, there are many things that we enjoy photographing, and it doesn’t necessarily mean we have to do them all. There are several options we could niche into. So, my question to you, Amber, is why do you want to add more options to what you’re currently doing? Let’s just start there.
Amber: Good question. When I started out as a photographer, I started with families and weddings. And I’m somebody who loves photographing and the human connection that comes with that. So, with boudoir, you can do that when you do it with couples. With families and weddings, you get more of that natural connection with somebody else who’s important in their lives.
Amber: Yes.
Brooke: So, it’s not an issue of I’m not making money, it’s an issue of I’m not as fulfilled as I could be. So, right off the bat, I was immediately drawn to the idea of boudoir and weddings because they mesh so beautifully together. That’s not to say that you couldn’t serve families and have boudoir, I’ve done that in the past. However, for you, with an established boudoir brand, it would be so much easier for you to take on the weddings because boudoir could easily tie into that. What better time to get boudoir photos then either before your wedding or coming a year later for a one-year anniversary. So, you see how both of those could easily mesh.
How do you feel about that if you were to dive back into offering weddings?
Amber: I feel good about that. I would just have to figure out marketing & SEO type stuff for that. As far as my website, who would I target? What areas, what keywords, etc.
Brooke: Those are tech issues, and we can totally bust those out for sure inside the Blueprint. So, if that’s really your only fear with that, I don’t think it’s going to be an issue at all.
Brooke: The answer is no, I want you to keep this as simplified as possible, especially when it does come down to it. You are going to primarily promote yourself more for weddings at this point and make it more couple oriented.
This will tie in really well for you, especially if it means you would be more fulfilled. We want you to be fulfilled in your business. What are your thoughts based on my feedback to you so far, Amber?
Amber: I love it. I can see it working together really well.
Brooke: I know, it seems like a lot. It’s a process; adding it marketing for it all of those things. But because you already have an established business and an established brand, I think it’s just going to be complimentary. That’s why I’m giving you the green light to go ahead and expand your niche.
Amber: What I love about it is, there is always something being added to it. It’s not “here’s my course, and this is what you do”. You’re always right there if we have a question, or we need additional help, and you’re always adding new videos into the program. The Blueprint itself helped me get organized in my workflows; I didn’t have an investment guide or anything like that before I joined, so, you encouraged me to get that done. I did, and it’s really helping with bookings. Gosh, I could just go on and on.
