Are you struggling with your mini sessions, or even sessions in general? Then this is the conversation for you! Together, let’s take a look at what is going wrong when you plan and execute your mini session experiences. I dive into mini session insights with Photographer & Educator, Kayla Brint. You’ll walk away with light bulb moments and tips to make sure your next mini session doesn’t flop.
You may be wondering why your mini session flopped and what you can do about it for future sessions. Let’s face it, we have all had a mini session or photography session flop. While there are certain factors we cannot control when it comes to mini sessions, we need to dig deep, do some soul searching, and reflect on how we can control the narrative of our next mini session event.
There will ALWAYS be things that are out of our control. As photographers, we are aware of the good and the bad of our businesses, but we need to continue to push forward. The more you show up on social media for your business, the more brand authority you get. In return, the more brand authority you have, the more you sell! When it comes to sessions flopping, it’s often something within our control that causes this.
When it comes to your mini session planning you have to make some noise. Have a plan for your marketing, don’t just throw spaghetti against the wall expecting it to stick. You need to remember to put your ego aside when it comes to posting on social media. Blast social media with your upcoming session even if you feel like you’re posting about it too much. Ensure that you have created a marketing plan for your mini sessions and stick to it.
As you begin planning your mini sessions make sure that your ideal clients are available. Check to see what is going on in your community. For example if you are doing a mini session for children, see if there are soccer games, baseball games, dance recitals, theatre productions ect. on the date you have picked. We need to be aware of your ideal clients scheduling. If you are unsure, get a conversation going with your clients about what dates do or don’t work. Take to social media with possible dates, a poll for the event, etc. Your audience will let you know what works!
Schedule your minis next to a 9-5 payday cycle. This will allow people to be able to pay for the session. If your ideal clients are getting paid monthly, schedule near their payday. We often find Sundays are the best day for scheduling. If you need more marketing tips check out this post to help increase your business bookings.
Are other photographers in your area booking the same mini sessions around the same time? You want to be first to market so planning ahead is essential! If you are doing the same session as other photographers, decide how you can make your minis unique and memorable. What is the icing on your mini session cake? Perhaps you are offering an interactive photography event or offering a quicker turnaround.
During your mini session, offer your audience some great behind the scenes on your social media. Get the excitement going so your ideal clients who didn’t book will remember you the next time you plan mini sessions.
