Photography Business, Photography Education

Do you currently feel stuck in your photography business? There are two very common things that could be holding you back from the business you’re chasing after. In fact I’m seeing these two things happen to photographers so often that I knew I needed to talk about it.

Photography Business Coach, Brooke Jefferson, is typing up a blog helping photographers to not feel stuck.

The Two Things Making You Feel Stuck in Your Business

You’ve built up momentum in your business and you’ve been able to book a couple clients; But you just can’t seem to hit that booking goal. Because of this you naturally fall into overthinking and overconsuming.

The first thing is honestly something we’re all guilty of, overthinking. You get so caught up in your head, constantly coming up with new ideas and getting discouraged when they don’t work. Your brain is bouncing everywhere which puts you in a state of paralysis. And this paralysis makes you feel stuck which prevents you from taking action.

Overcome Overthinking With These Two Tips

There’s unfortunately no quick fix to stop your overthinking, but there are things that you can do that will help.

First, get comfortable in knowing and understanding that you’ll never do something perfectly. Take that messy action because taking action is better than doing nothing at all. Take a look and ask yourself, did the action you took work? If it did, then great, keep doing that. If it didn’t work? That’s ok. At least you tried and now you can make a shift and try something else.

The second thing that can help you with overthinking is to find a mentor or a coach. If you’re in a constant state of paralysis analysis then you’ll never be able to see momentum in your business. You can take all of those thoughts in your head and bring them to someone who can help you sort them out. Having a mentor or a coach is something that will always provide you with results and get you closer to a profitable photography business. Yes it is an investment. But it’s an investment that you’ll always see a return on.

If you and I happen to align, you love the way I teach, and you feel we would be a good fit then I would love work with you. You want to be sure to find a mentor or coach who aligns with your goals and desired lifestyle, your type of business, and your values.

Working With A Mentor Can Help You Not Feel Stuck

Why Overconsuming Content + Advice Is Not Helping You

Overconsuming means that you are taking in more than you are putting out. This can play out by listening to multiple podcasts, binging Youtube videos, buying courses from multiple coaches, and following the advice of multiple voices. The problem with listening to more than one mentor/coach/guru at a time is that they may be giving contradictory advice.

Overconsuming leads you to trying too many different strategies and not giving any of them your all. You’re never sure which strategy is best for your business and you’ll never see any of them to their fullest.

There’s definitely not only one way to run a business. But try to be committed to following one voice for 6-12 months before listening to someone else or changing course.

How to Eliminate the Noise So You Can Get Unstuck

Ask yourself what your goals are and what kind of business you want to run. Then see who you align with who was able to achieve similar results in their business. You want to be sure to sync up with someone who has the same values as you.

If you find that you’re in all of the Facebook groups, you get emails from multiple different educators, you listen to so many podcasts then maybe it’s time to set some boundaries. Take a moment and put everything on pause and determine which voice would be the best one for you to listen to right now.

Follow These Steps So You Don’t Feel Stuck

If you find you’re dealing with one or both of these things, overthinking and overconsumption, then my best advice is to get a mentor/coach. A coach can get you out of your head, help you pick one strategy, and show you how to apply it to your business.

If you can’t work with a mentor or a coach right now then find ways to take action. Eliminate all of the noise and decide which voice you want to follow for the next year. And then put everything else on pause (podcasts, videos, Facebook groups, emails, etc).
