Learn How To Grow Your Photography Business to Full Time Income This Year!
Do you struggle with comparing yourself to other photographers? Are you constantly watching what they are doing and trying to replicate it yourself? Do you feel insecure or inferior to other photographers? If so, keep reading as I walk you through an exercise to overcome comparison as a photographer and extend grace to yourself so you can be confident right where you are.
A brand new year is only days away and it’s an opportunity for a fresh start. New Year’s is my favorite holiday! This is your opportunity to start a new chapter in your business. Don’t worry about what went wrong or what goals you didn’t accomplish the year prior. How do you want this next year to feel? What do you want to do differently? If you haven’t had a chance to set goals yet, watch the goal setting workshop inside of the Facebook Group.
Have you heard the saying that “Comparison is the thief of joy?” It’s one of my favorite quotes because it carries such truth. When you are constantly seeing what other photographers are doing, it can put you in a negative headspace. Think about a photographer that you follow on social media that every time you see their posts, negative feeling rise up inside you. You start feeling like you’re behind, or less than, or not doing as good as they are. Comparing your business to another photographer will never help you. That is why I am challenging you to participate in this exercise.
If you want to overcome comparison, I’m going to challenge you to take a social media break. Your business will not fall apart if you take a week or two off, I promise. This will offer you a fresh perspective on your business and give you a chance to dream big. You can think creatively and know this was your idea and not something you saw on social media. Use this time to create new packages, change up your pricing, uplevel your client experience, or completely do things differently.
Take a break from following all of the noise and take some time for yourself. Get recharged. Log off the computer, stop scrolling social media, and stop stalking your inbox. Go on a walk or drive by yourself, listen to music, do something you enjoy, or sit outside. You will notice that you feel recharged and renewed after taking this break and you will be able to overcome comparison and imposter syndrome.
