Learn How To Grow Your Photography Business to Full Time Income This Year!
Warning: This blog is going to be spicy! I am diving into whether or not you should be using social media in your photography business. Do you have to use Facebook or Instagram as a photographer? Let’s find out.
My short answer to this controversial question is yes! I do think social media is a must for photographers, but it doesn’t have to be forever. At some point in the decision making process, your ideal client will use your social profiles to help make their decision to hire you.
Social media is how you get your brand across, your name out, and your business up and going especially in the beginning. Facebook and Instagram are often the first place your clients go to look for a photographer. As a photographer it’s a free place to showcase your work and what clients are saying.
Social media marketing now values quality content over quantity. This means that you don’t need to show up 24/7 and post every single day. Now you can show up 4-5 days a week in your stories and create 3-4 feed posts to stay relevant. Once you build up your brand recognition in your business, you can taper off of social platforms a little more. You can then rely on word of mouth and the SEO working for you.
I can tell you with certainty that social media is still working. It’s working for me and my clients and students. You have to show up treating Facebook & Instagram as a free gift to connect with your ideal clients. Find the joy in using social platforms and be thankful for this free tool at your fingertips! I share a whole week of content for your social media on this podcast if you are looking for more direction.

People that have let social media go, are usually the ones that have built their business through social platforms before letting it go. I am now to the point that I can not utilize social media for three to four months and I am still fully booked. Learn to love social media and you will see such a difference in your business.
